Lot description:


Nero. AD 54-68. Æ Sestertius (36mm, 26.34 g, 7h). Uncertain Balkan/Thracian mint. Struck circa AD 63. Laureate head right / DECVRSIO, Nero on horseback right, holding spear; to left, soldier advancing right; to right, soldier advancing right, head left, holding vexillum and shield. Cf. RIC I 107; cf. WCN 79; von Kaenel, "Britannicus, Agrippina Minor und Nero in Thrakien," SNR 63 (1984), –; BMCRE –; Cohen –; CNG E-128, lot 299. Black green patina with areas of light olive overtones. VF. Centration mark on obverse is clear, the tell-tale sign that this coin was not struck in Rome. Rare. Unpublished in the standard references. Exceptional quality for a Thracian mint issue.
